Probably the worst part of the Phuket Tsunami was the Tsunami Patong
beach and the biggest damage was done by the Khao Lak Tsunami.
Somehow luckily the Tsunami wave hit
Phuket beaches in the morning
when there haven't been many people at the beach. On the other hand
at that time it was probably the worst time for the Khao Lak Tsunami
since the people just had breakfast at the beach resorts when the
wave hit and after only the skeleton of the hotels were left. The
Tsunami wave was a real disaster for everyone at the west coast of
southern Thailand.
Causes of Tsunami where earthquakes
off the northern Indonesian island.
Tsunami facts are that the disaster could have been much less when
some people of the Thai geological service would have taken the
warnings from the USGS serious. The same day they had a conference
at Hua Hin, a beach town 200km southwest of Bangkok and they have
been informed that there was an earthquake and the risk of a Tsunami
wave but they didn't issue any Tsunami warning, when asked
afterwards why they didn't issue a warning the answer was.. imagine
what the people would talk about us when we issue a warning and
there is maybe no Tsunami after!
The worst hit on Thai soil was Khao
Lak
and even about a year after the
Tsunami struck Khao Lak was still somehow in a state of shock,
everything looked just the same as immediately after the Tsunami.
The worst hit places on Phuket were cleaned and restored quickly,
also the Phi Phi islands and Trang Thailand. Actually at Phi Phi
almost all structures disappeared and only one Phi Phi Beach Resort
left. For Tsunami stories have a look further down. |

the

Khao Lak Tsunami |
the moon and Phuket. Sometimes after dawn my sleep was interrupted because I felt the bed moving a bit, what was wrong, maybe to much wining and dining last night ? While trying to get my head clear I also noticed the water in the bottle on the night desk swapping back and forward. Since I experienced quite a similar situation many years ago in a hotel in Istanbul, Turkey I was quite sure to experience an earthquake, but since the whole was over within seconds I just turned and kept on sleeping.
Sometime later this morning a sound woke me up, like strong guts of wind and storm raging outside maybe a typhoon, tornado or what ? The sound grew stronger and stronger, abruptly and immediately water seeped into the room, increasing its volume lightning fast until it engulfed the whole area. It was so fierce and forceful I couldn’t open the doors or windows, I was caught inside a hell of water. The dirty brown water quickly filled up the room, only a small space near the ceiling was left so I got some air – sounds like Indiana Jones in real time-. Am I going to be buried in the water grave, were this my last moments? Now a big bang, the door and windows broke open and the water disappeared leaving only some wet dirt behind, it looked like the big Tsunami wave moved on and the pressure from outside disappeared.
Thank good or whoever, I was saved at last, I took a deep breath and tried to get body and soul together. I rushed out of the house just to stumble back, rack and ruin, the disaster and devastation was somehow unthinkable. Dead bodies with partly blue color were around, |
