Mai Khao Beach is
at the north west end of Phuket Island, stretched along the waterline
for several km and
behind are coconut plantation.
But as you can see on the pictures
the Mai Khao beach is lined with coniferous trees which is
nothing negative, it looks just almost as good as with palm trees.
The coconut palm are a little bit further behind. Actually most
beaches in Phuket Island have pine trees along the sand.
Its near to the airport and quite far
to Patong and Phuket Town, both are over 30 km to the the south.
Its a little bit isolated up there in the north since the only
development is the JW Marriott hotel just at the beach, but no real
village.
In between the JW Marriott hotel and
the airport is one of Phuket's top golf club the Blue Canyon
Golf Club a huge piece of land with a very attractive landscaping.
At the Marriott Hotel a huge expansion
is currently on the northern side of the beach resort or
hotel, building houses and apartments.
There are no other hotels around on
Mai Khao beach only some beach hut accommodations, since
officially Mai Khao Beach is part of the Nai Yang National Park and
in a National Park usually there are no huge structures, only maybe
some crude bungalows run by the National Park Authorities or the
Forestry Department, also the JW Marriott Hotel is on this location
? Here are some simple
beach huts accommodations at Mai Khao Beach.
It also was announced recently that
the Shinawatra family will start a huge construction project on
Mai Khao Beach, with hotels, condos, shopping etc. |

The secluded Mai Khao Beach area is one of the areas where leatherback sea turtles still come to to lay their eggs in the sand.
The nesting time is from November to February. |

At Phuket
Mai Kao,
May Kao beach or Mai Khao beach there are a couple of low priced beach cottages and beach bungalows. At the high luxury end are 3 beach resorts one is the JW Marriott and the other is Anantara Phuket Beach Resort plus the Sala Phuket Resort & Spa, there is no
beach inn.
The beach at this part of the Indian ocean, actually its the Andaman Sea is quite natural still. The reason is officially its a national park means nothing cant be done there everything must be kept like it always was.
But big money, including the real estate development arm of the deposed Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is moving in to change this.
Currently on the extension of the JW Mariott beach resort beach villas are constructed by the dozen, this are not cheap
beach rooms or
discount hotel.
On this
holiday beach and
holiday resort big things are happen and big money is made.
The
nearest other hotels to this JW Marriott ocean resort are the Anantara Phuket Beach Resort and the Sala Phuket Resort & Spa.
