are actually two beaches, Kata Beach and Kata Noi Beach.

in front of Kata Noi Beach is the best spot for surfing in Phuket
and probably in whole southern

At the southwest end of Phuket Kata Noi Beach is the place where some surfers dream become true. The steady wind from the Indian Ocean over the Andaman Sea and the appropriate underwater topography build roaring waves. They are not on the size of the breaker at Hawaii and elsewhere but quite passable.
The warm tropical world needs no black full-body suits to be kept warm sweating is the rule. Surfers glide out into the sea, lying on their boards paddling through the emerald colored water. Another day in the rhythm of surfing at Phuket starts, the steady wind is blowing from west and there we go, paddling the wave, push off from the board, jump up to slide it along into the bay for about 50m. Some cut corners like snowboarders and jump over the crest of the wave like skateboarders in the half pipe.
People on the beach come from the surrounding Kata hotels and the tourists come and go. The waves build up far out in the Indian Ocean and blown by strong wind to break at Kata beach for Thailand surfing. It also needs a suitable underwater topology which is clearly visible when comparing Kata Noi Beach and Karon Beach just a few hundred meters further north , where the waves are only minimal.
The water is also ideal for beginners since the waves are rather modest and practical because the beach is just in front, it’s also a good place for beginners. If someone is more interested in kite surfing, he or she should go to Nai Yang Beach near Phuket Airport.
It's amazing how easily the surfers are on the board. Sometimes the battle with the wave is lost and the surfer is buried under it, because the wave is stronger the surfer will be banged around under water it needs to keep balance and orientation. |
